Originally formed back in 2003 following the break-up of Keefer and Joe’s previous band The Mirrormen, Flowers initially featured the twin talents of ex-Loogaburooga brothers Dan and Julian as well as bassist Norbert. A set was written and a number of gigs followed before we parted company with the brothers, Joe moved behind the kit and we hooked up with guitarist Ben. This lasted about a year until Ben had to move back to France. Norbert then decided to dedicate himself to his other band Olympus Mons and Flowers temporarily disbanded, during which time Keefer formed and played in the post-prog outfit LamRatLazIt1st. Come mid-2007, LamRatLazIt1st had been put on hold and Joe and Keefer decided to reform Flowers with Dead Existence / Nebukanezza stalwart Fred on guitar. They then played as a trio until early 2009 when we managed to find our Brazilian drummer Santiago – who approached us after a show, brilliantly enough, as we’d been fruitlessly looking for a drummer for ages – and ex Social Schism man Steve who alternates between bass and guitar. These additions allowed us to be much more flexible in our line-up meaning we can play more or less any date we’re offered! Fred is shortly due to depart Flowers with our blessings to concentrate on other projects.
Flowers have thus far completed 2 recording sessions, one of which has been released as the “BiteScreamSlap” EP. The other, produced by Joe and ex-LamRatLazIt1st member Matt Jarman, will form the basis of the first Flowers album though some of the tracks have also been released as the “Devotion Or Destruction” EP. Flowers have also just returned from a UK tour with the mighty Armed Response Unit.
